Horticultural Labels
Question Answer Explanation

Why do my StickIn labels go out of registration, cause a red error light, or come out blank? Make sure that the label guides are firmly up against the label stock. A loose fit allows the [tippy title="sensor hole (gap)"]three-stickins
Illustration shows three types of plant pot StickIns for horticultural use. The holes are detected by the gap sensor[/tippy] to wander out of sight of the [tippy title="sensor"]pro-internal[/tippy]. A close fit is required.
Why won’t my horticultural StickIn labels print without causing an error? The label type is wrong or fitted the wrong way round.

Pro 200/300 model:

If there are [tippy title="sensor holes"]three-stickins
Illustration shows three types of plant pot StickIns for horticultural use. The holes are detected by the gap sensor[/tippy] only on one side of the label stock, make sure they are on the right-hand side where they can be detected by the [tippy title="gap sensor"]pro-internal[/tippy].

Also make sure that LabelDirect is set to ‘Gap’ rather than ‘Line’.

If there are sensor holes only in the centre of the label stock, make sure that LabelDirect is set to [tippy title="Black Line"]

black-line-label1used where label stock has no gap that can be detected by the printer’s gap sensor.  Black lines are printed on the reverse side of the backing paper and are detected by the Black Line sensor.[/tippy] rather than ‘Gap’.

342 Model:

Make sure that the sensor hole is in the centre where it can be detected by the [tippy title="gap sensor"]stickin-to-gap[/tippy]

I wish to print on Q-PTLS10019STIN labels on a Pro series printer but this horticultural label has a centrally located sensor hole t3 which cannot be detected by the [tippy title="Gap sensor"]pro-internal[/tippy]. Can these labels still be used? Yes. The hole can be detected by the [tippy title="Black Line"]pro-internal[/tippy] sensor instead of the [tippy title="Gap sensor"]stickin-to-gap[/tippy]. It so happens that with white label stock under black (or dark) ribbon the sensor ‘sees’ the hole as a black line!
I am using a Pro series printer to print on StickIns which have the [tippy title="sensor hole on one side"]stickin-to-gap[/tippy]  only. How can I print on the glossy side of these labels?

Under ‘Stock Settings’ in the [tippy title="LabelDirect Design Window"]ld-design-window[/tippy] (right-hand side) you can change ‘Gap Type’ from ‘Gap’ to ‘Line’ then move the Black Line sensor on the printer itself so that it is on the left. [tippy title="Hover here to see how to identify and align this sensor"] stickin-to-black-line[/tippy] (it only takes a few seconds) then you can print your StickIns glossy side up!

Don’t forget to return the Black Line sensor used where label stock has no gap that can be detected by the printer’s gap sensor. Black lines are printed on the reverse side of the backing paper and are detected by the Black Line sensor.[/tippy] to the centre again if you intend to print on [tippy title="Black Line type"]used where label stock has no gap that can be detected by the printer’s gap sensor. Black lines are printed on the reverse side of the backing paper and are detected by the Black Line sensor.[/tippy] labels in the future.

This only works if you are using black (or dark) ribbon. It does so because the optical sensor ‘sees’ the ribbon through the hole and ‘thinks’ it is a black line!
My roll of horticultural labels is too large to fit inside the printer. How do I deal with this? Use an [tippy title="external roll-mount"]roll-mount[/tippy]. To see how this is fitted, click [tippy title="here]roll-mount-diag[/tippy]. The external roll-mount is supplied with a [tippy title="large diameter spindle"]roll-mount-spindle[/tippy].
